Species endangerment and extinction (result of the aforementioned destruction)
Food- and water shortages (also caused by the aforementioned destruction)
Many more environmental disasters.

It's my personal choice
It cannot be called a personal choice when it involves harming a third party for a trivial reason, which is your desire to enjoy eating them / their secretions.

By eating less (or better: no) meat, you have a way bigger impact on saving the earth than by not showering, not driving a car, not use electricity or any other technology and not recycling combined. For instance: it's estimated that 1800 to 2500 gallons of water go into a single pound of beef.
